Mahakala is omnipotent guardian, taking the form of a small black figure to personify their indestructible dharma nature. Serpents and a garland of skulls surround this figure, the crown of five skulls signifying the five vices. Right hand clutching a Kartri to cut away all attachment to ego, in the left a Kapala full of blood to defeat evil. The triad of eyes signify their knowledge of past, present and future, and the blood smeared around the mouth stands for their activity to terminate wickedness.
