Buddha Shakyamuni was born Siddhartha Gautama, the only son of king in Shakya dynasty. At the age of 29, he renounced the luxury of his royal heritage to take up the life of a religious wanderer. At the age of 35, after gaining profound insight into the true nature of reality (Dharma), he attained complete enlightenment. In this thangka painting Buddha is depicted mediating under a bodhi tree and after soo long time of deep meditation his body become totally lean and thin. His bones started to seen and he is in the verge of death after doing meditation for soo long time without any food and water.
