Kali is a Hindu Goddess, a chief of the Mahavidyas, a group of ten Tantric goddesses. Kali is known as Kalika or Shyama in Sanskrit. She is the most powerful form of Shakti and her earliest appearance is that of a destroyer of evil forces.She is worshipped as the Mother of the Universe, Adi Shakti, or Adi Parashakti or , as Divine Mother. She is also the divine protector who bestows moksha, or liberation.
On this Thangka Kali is portrayed standing or dancing on her consort and the Hindu god Shiva, who lies calm and prostrate beneath her.
