Bajrasattwa is also known as the “buddha of purification”.  In the Japanese Vajrayana school of Buddhism, Shingon, Bajrasattwa is the impenetrable aspect of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra and is commonly associated with the student consultant who through the master's teachings, attains an ever-inspiring, understated and complex grounding in their impenetrable practice.

Six Syllable Mantra of Bajrasattwa: Oṁ Vajrasatva Hūṁ”

Bajrasattwa is seated with his legs crossed in a Bajra posture (bajrasana) on a moon disk above a lotus flower.  On the right arm of Bajrasattwa he holds a Bajra which represents the active means towards enlightenment. And in his left arm, he holds an upturned bell(ghanta) which is a symbol of emptiness and the perfection of wisdom.

Where and How to place Bajrasattwa Statue?

  • The Bajrasattwa being a Buddhist Bodhisattva helps your meditations as it shows you how to visualize the deity.
  • This statue is also seen as a visual expression of the highest state of consciousness, which is the goal of the Buddhist spiritual path.
  • The Statue should be placed in a very peaceful environment like living rooms, personal offices which bring positivity and very lively energy to the room and the surroundings.

How to take care of your statue?

  • If your statue is gold painted on the face, then do not clean or touch with cold water. You should wipe the dust with soft and clean cotton.
  • Never use steel wool or metal bristled brushes or do scrubbing on the surface of the statue as this method of cleaning leaves scratches on the statue.
  • Avoid touching gold statues as much as possible. Oil from your hands can hasten the tarnishing process and reduce the life of your gold objects.

    Thangka Painting Guide

How should I care for my Thangka painting?

To preserve the beauty and longevity of your Thangka painting, keep it away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Display it in a clean, dry environment and avoid direct contact with water, as it can damage the painting.

For a traditional touch, consider framing your Thangka with brocade from Himalayas Shop. This not only enhances its beauty but also adds an extra layer of protection. When not in use, carefully roll up the Thangka and store it in a protective cover to avoid creasing or tearing.

You could also frame it at your local shop for modern look.

Where Should I Hang My New Thangka Painting?

Your Thangka painting should be hung in a place of respect, such as a meditation room, living room, or altar area. Ensure it is displayed at eye level to fully appreciate the intricate details.

Thangka can also be displayed in offices to create a serene and positive environment, or in your child's room to introduce them to spiritual art from an early age, fostering their spiritual journey.

Can I Use Thangka Paintings for Meditation?

Yes, Thangka paintings are often used as meditation aids. The detailed imagery and symbolic meanings can help focus the mind and deepen meditation practices. Choose a Thangka depicting a deity or mandala that resonates with you and place it in your meditation space to enhance your practice.

How Long Does It Take to Paint a Thangka?

The time required to complete a Thangka painting varies based on its size and complexity. A small, simple Thangka might take several weeks to month complete.

Thangka paintings are not created with commercial intentions to be finished quickly; rather, painting a Thangka is a deeply spiritual practice for the artist itself. High-level master artists take their time, painting only when they have the right energy and spiritual alignment.
