Yamaraj is a popular god in both Hindu and Buddhism. He is called the King of Death, rides on a Buffalo and on his right hand he holds a banner and on his left hand, he holds a Tarjani pasa.
In Sanskrit “Yama” means twin ruler. He along with his sister Yami governs the two realms Hell and the Ghost Realm. According to folklore, Yama rules over dead Males and his sister Yami rules over the dead Females.
According to Tibetan legends, King Yamaraj was subdued by Yamantaka, who is a wrathful manifestation of Bodhisattva Manjushri.
