Vajrasattva is also known as the “buddha of purification”. Vajra means “thunderbolt,” although it can also mean “diamond.” The thunderbolt was the most powerful force, while the diamond was the most indestructible object known. The Vajra that he holds is almost identical to some of the stylized thunderbolts held by Zeus in ancient Greek statues. “Sattva” means “being.”This thangka is hand painted with natural color and gold - a limited collection piece from 1990's . Vajrasattva is seated with his legs crossed in a Bajra posture (Vajrasana) on a moon disk above a lotus flower. The right arm of Vajrasattva he holds a Vajra which represents the active means towards enlightenment. And in his left arm he holds a upturned bell(ghanta) which is a symbol of emptiness and the perfection of wisdom.
