This Ekajati Thangka painting depicts Protector Deity Ekajati, also known as Ugratara in Sanskrit, one of the most powerful fierce protectors of Vajrayana Buddhism. Hand-painted in Kathmandu Valley, Ekajati is revered for protecting secret mantras and being the mother of all Buddhas. Legends hold that Padmasambhava pierced her right eye to increase her effectiveness in subjugating Tibetan demons. She is also regarded as one of the 3 principal protectors of Nyingma, with Rahula and Vajrasadhu.
