The protrusion on top of his head is a symbol of the union between body and mind, between earth and heaven. The flag also has a mantra of Shakyamuni Buddha “ Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Shakya Muni Swaha” in Tibetan language. Shakyamuni’s mantra is a play on his name. Muni means sage. Maha means great.
